Revisiting the 4th of July

Last Wednesday I was grateful to be able to spend the 4th of July with Rachelle and her family.

When I think about leaving Utah...one of the biggest things I will never forget is the kindness that the Wardle fam has shown to me. They have taken me in as one of their own and I have always felt welcome in their home. I have enjoyed spending time with them on holidays, at weekend dinners, at sporting events, etc.

Thinking of leaving such dear friends family and such kindness behind makes my heart ache. But I will forever be appreciative of the moments I have enjoyed with such a wonderful family! I was looking forward so much to celebrating the 4th with them and it felt like the perfect day. I felt sadness at the day's end but also joy and peace and gratitude for being able to join in on such a wonderful occasion.

We met bright and early Wednesday morning to head down to the small town of Eureka where they put on the best 4th of July celebration. They pick up all the kids in fire trucks and then everyone heads to the school for races, water balloon fights, snacks and fun:)

Amber + James in the potato sack race!
Dillon smoking the competition in the potato sack!
Rachelle and Dillon...3 legged race extraordinaires!
Epic Chicken chase!
I enjoyed watching everyone take part in the races and even received $0.15 for my own efforts in the adult sprint race:)

The festivities were followed by the most delicious meal hosted by Rachelle's grandparents ...including my favorite pretzel salad that her grandma makes:)

Overall it was an amazing day. Another one added to the long list I will never forget.

  8. Oh my gosh friend I was practically in tears reading this until I read "I even won .15 cents for my efforts" and I busted up laughing hysterically. That day is one I will never forget. I loved every second of it and I love that I have been able to share my family with you. We are a crazy bunch but boy do we love you so very much. I totally finally allowed myself to have a melt down last night about you leaving (tears and everything-I never cry!) and after I let out all of my emotions I realized two things. First that I am so thankful for the many memories we have shared and that I am so lucky to have had you in my life through such difficult times. And second that no matter the distance between us we will always be friends and we will always support each other no matter what.

Sorry for the long comment but I just wanted to share my reflections. I know for a fact that wherever you are I will make it a priority to visit and I am excited!

  13. WOW! $0.15?!?! Rockstar!

On a serious note, it breaks my heart to see that you have to leave Rachelle and her family. I have gotten to know both of you and the dynamic duo over the past year and it's so hard to see even for ME! You two were lucky to have each other. Just because you are moving, it doesn't mean goodbye. I can tell you two have such a strong relationship and you will be forever friends.

I am so happy you were able to celebrate with Rachelle and her family. What a great way to put a close to your time in Utah. You have new and incredible adventures waiting for you and I can't wait to hear all about them!
